Here are some photos of the Crimson Sunbird (Aethopyga siparaja) I was (very) lucky enough to take good photos of. But of course, the quality would not pass yet the standards of publishers. More rakets and I should be able to buy that loooong lens for some serious bird photography.

Very small, very nice bird. This could very be a spark bird for some and convince them to go into birdwatching.

Cruising in Negros

My friend and fellow environmentalist based in Bacolod City, Gerry Ledesma has been an untiring advocate to help protect the remaining natural areas in Negros Occidental, foremost of which is his pet project, Danjugan Island.

Now, he's also including the use of his trimaran for tourists who may want to witness the beauty of the southern part of Negros.

This should be very exciting as one can have the opportunity to have a leisurely cruise in the area and at the same time, get the opportunity to dive its impressive reef systems and visit Danjugan Island.

Mall of Asia - Timelapse

Here's my timelapse movie on the Mall of Asia. Because of its giant size, it has actually become a tourist attraction in Metro Manila. Many visitors are impressed, and some cannot believe that the Philippines can have a mall this huge. Shot with a Nikon D80 using a remote control timer. Shakes were caused by my sons who occassionaly bumped the tripod. It was a great moment to spend time with them, though plus doing this thing.

Whale Sharks of Donsol

Pobably the only place in the world where one can see the rare whale sharks in large numbers. Said to be the biggest fish and shark, it can grow to as much as sixty feet long.

The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is the world's largest fish. They appear in Donsol waters in considerable numbers between December and May each year, taking advantage of dense food concentrations. Donsol is a seasonal feeding ground for the whale sharks.

The main attraction of the festival is the fluvial parade. The event is held on the 3rd week of September.

A harvest-offering festival on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes every 11th of February. It is based on an old tradition where Bicolanos offer to God their first bountiful harvest as the way of thanksgiving. During the festival, all the different barrios converge to the site to participate in the festivity.

Kagsawa is a word derived from KAG which means "who does or owner" and SAWA, meaning "python." The fury of Mayon Volcano eruption on February 1, 1814 killed 1,200 people and buried Cagsawa Church and the whole town under the destructive mudflow sparing only the belfry.

The 14-meter falls called Daranak stands magnificently beneath a running stream. Swimming or walking along the edge of the pool to the back of the falls gives a refreshing feeling. A short walk over the bamboo bridge to the top of Daranak are smaller cascades. Batlag Falls is located before one reaches Daranak Falls . It has magnificent falls and calm basins that allow anyone to bathe and enjoy the green surrounding of the area.

San Clemente is the patron saint of fishermen, highly revered by the people of Angono since this coastal town is inhabited by fisherfolks. On the actual feast day, the image of San Clemente is carried on a barge in Laguna Lake , with a fluvial procession. The event is celebrated every November 22 and 23.

The town of Antipolo was traditionally known for this falls even before WW II. This mountain resort has picnic cottages, a swimming pool, artificial paths and steps down to the view of the waterfalls. During the month of May, cultural concerts and plays are held in the area.

Farmers pay tribute to the carabao during the feast day of San Isidro Labrador, their patron saint. During the celebration of San Isidro Labrador, a feast in honor of the popular patron saint of the Filipino farmer, farming towns all over the Philippines held one form of thanksgiving to the patron. In San Isidro , the farmers groom their carabaos and they fall into a procession with their carabaos gaily decorated. Upon passing in front of the church, the carabaos kneel in respect to their patron saint. The event is celebrated every May 15.

St. Paul Subterranean National Park

St. Paul 's National Park is one of the most significant national parks in the Philippines . The park has a size of about 3,000 hectares composed of primary rainforests and limestone forests. It also has several hundred hectares of marine protected area. Its most interesting feature, however, is an 8.2 kilometer long subterranean river where one can explore a certain length on board a paddle boat. To visit the park, one will have to register at the park office located in Puerto Princesa City and in Sabang. The park is managed by the city government of Puerto Princesa.

Although, swimming is prohibited in the park proper, one can do it in the neighboring area of Sabang.

The Bathala caves are said to be mystical and the repository of psychic powers emanating from various points of the universe. It is believed that there are seven caves composing the Bathala Cave Complex. However, only four of these caves have been explored.

A marker stands at the site of the bloodiest battle ever fought in the island between the Marinduque Revolutionary Forces and the Americans. The "Battle of Pulang Lupa" was the first known major battle won by the Filipinos over the Americans.

This cathedral was built sometime in 1656. The architecture is Fil-Hispanic Gothic with much of the original structure faithfully preserved - the facade and main body, the belfry, and the altar. Stained glass window, though a later addition, adorn the walls.

It is a religious festival which links the story of Longinus with Christ's Passion and Death. Starting Holy Monday, "Morions" roam the streets as they play pranks on the townspeople, serenade ladies, frighten children and sometimes engage in mock sword fights.

This two-kilometer long beach has numerous shells and corals scattered along the entire length of its southern half which is approximately a kilometer long. This area gives a variety of undersea flora and fauna for the divers to observe.

Ditumabo Falls

Approximately a hundred and forty feet high, the falls is surrounded by huge cliffs covered with tall hardwood, shrubbery and vines while sprays of cool water seem to remain suspended in the air.

Something weird and almost fatal accident happened to me here. I was having a luxurious bath in the river when a huge rock (as in a 4-kilo, 8-inches in diameter solid thing) landed on my head and created a nasty and bloody cut which made one of my companions almost faint when he saw the blood streaming down my face. The rock appently got dislodged from the wall and unfortunately zeroed-in on the top of my head. Well, my head was fortunately very thick and I survived that freak accident.
